The Junior School Playground has been decorated with images that reflect the Bible stories we have been studying. Believe it or Not?

Display of Sunflowers By Year 2

Tuesday 27 March 2018

STEAM - Science Technology Engineering Art Mathematics

Great lesson today!
Checking our bean growth - recording and labelling.
Creating the petals of a sunflower using paint and our hands.
Concentrating on the stem of the sunflower.

The task was to make a stem for our sunflowers so we could display our knowledge about sunflowers. The students were given newspaper, crepe paper ad masking tape. Love the results! We will cut up real sunflower stems next week to check our work.

Thank you to our friend, Mrs MacAlpine, who brought in her sunflower plant for us to feel and study.

Visual Literacy Techniques - Creating an image using the ideas we have learnt

Year 2 students were off and drawing today. They are trying to include the Visual Literacy Techniques that they have learned into a piece of artwork. Next week they will talk about the techniques that they have included.
Hopefully they are the salient point, thoughts about the colour that creates the mood and the text.

What's that growing on our Roof?

The Year 2 students were wondering how a plant started growing on the roof.
They looked and discussed many possibilities.
It was fun thinking of the reasons.

Seeds, seeds and more seeds!
WOW!
The Year 2 students collected huge quantities of seeds.
We will look carefully at all the types in our next Science and Technology lesson...
Stay tuned for what we will do with them...

History Lesson - Lego - Past to Present

Today the Stage 1 students worked in their teams to explore the history of specific toys. One group investigated Lego. The students ordered the pictures from the past to the present and then added sentences to explain when the developments happened.
After discussing what they had learnt that was new, the students played with Duplo.

Literacy Lesson - Looking at Text in our Visual Literacy

This term Year 2 has been looking at the book, Fox By Margaret Wild. We have investigated the focal point, the text and the colour.

To help the students consolidate their understanding of text they used sticks and leaves to write a sentence about the characters in the book.

They had fun but they found that it was very hard to complete the task. We discussed the fact that creating a book is not as easy as you may think. It takes a lot of time and perseverance to complete it well and be happy with the results.

Toys from the Past - History

The Year 2 students were very excited today because they were asked to bring toys to school. These toys were not their own toys, but toys that belonged to either their parents or grandparents. The students have been studying how toys have changed over time. We looked at the materials that the toys were made from as it gives us clues to their age. it was a most enjoyable lesson.
