Looking at our sunflowers and enjoying a break from our classroom environment.

Year Two enjoyed a break from the classroom this morning. We investigated the growth of our sunflowers and discussed the way that some seeds grew faster than others and we looked at some that didn't get much sun and those that got lots of sun.
We are looking forward to seeing what happens in the next two weeks while we are on holidays.

Parent Help Term 2

Dear Parents,

We are hoping to find another one or two parent helpers for reading groups on Monday's next term. The time slot is from 11am - 12:20pm. We understand that this is not an ideal time slot; however, if you are able to join us during this time, please let Miss Everist know via email - everistb@inaburra.nsw.edu.au

We will endeavour to send out the parent help roster for Term 2 by the end of this week. Due to a high interest in some activities, we may not be able to cater to everyone's wishes. We will do our best to include as many people as possible in parent help for Term 2.

Thank you for your willingness to help the students in the classroom!

Learning About Mass - hands on and fun

Year 2 students were asked what Mass means. It was really interesting to view the results. In the end it was decided that mass was measuring the weight of objects. Today the students practised hefting.
After hefting to find a number of blocks to match the teacher's mystery bag, the students used the pan balance to find objects that had the same mass.
The students were excellent at sharing the equipment, working in teams and using mathematical language.

Studying the inside of the sunflower flower.

After the sunflower flowers dried up we spent some time working in groups pulling them apart. The seeds had not formed because the flowers were cut from the stems. We think they needed to decompose while they were still attached to the plant. We will plant them anyway and see if they germinate.
