Speaking and Listening - Talking about Recipes

Year 2 students enjoy planning and delivering their Talking activity each week. Last week each student researched a recipe to talk about.

The learning intention was to listen carefully to a partner.

"I can listen to my partner talk about their recipe."

It looks like most students were successful.

Sport and Visual Arts

As well as Reading, Wring and Maths, Year 2 had a fun day learning new skills in Sport. We enjoyed learning from the AFL team that visited us during our Sport time.

After lunch Year 2 read the book, A Forest By Marc Martin. We talked about the story being a circle story. We examined the art work in the book and we tried to copy the style using paint and texta. We enjoyed the bubble printing for the background of the artwork.

Science - Seeing is Believing!

We have two eyes yet we only see one image. How does this work? What happens when our left eye sees something different to our right eye?

One eye sees a hole through the rolled paper.
The other eye sees a hand in front of it. Your eyes and brain put the two images together to create a hand with a hole in it! This is called an optical illusion.

Visual Literacy - Speaking and Listening

For speaking and listening homework this Friday the students are to find an image and discuss the following visual literacy techniques with the class:

- Demand Gaze (if the character is looking straight out of the page at the viewer)

- Offer Gaze (if the character is not looking at the viewer)

- Salient Point (Where your eye is drawn to first and why)

- Colour (Warm colours may make you feel hot or angry, cool colours could make you feel scared or cold)

- Text (How is the writing arranged around the page?)

Excursion to Shelly Park and Oak Park, Cronulla

As part of our investigation of "Suitable Spaces" Stage 1 visited two parks at Cronulla.

We discussed many aspects of these areas. We plan to identify particular aspects of a space that are essential and that which is good use of the space. We also continued our investigations of the use of natural and man-made resources.

Here are some shots of parts of our excursion.

Next week we will be continuing our discussions.

Visual Arts

This term Year 2 has been studying Fox by Margaret Wild as a Visual Literacy Text.
What better way to improve the students' artistic skills than to draw the images from the text.
The students have been using chalk pastels and oil pastels to shade the drawings and have been blending the colours.
Please enjoy some of the sketches...
