Marigolds???
Watch It Grow...A Science Lesson.
After the weekend, we enjoyed looking at the seeds that we had planted to see what may have happened.
Mrs Tasker found a book that showed us what happens when the seed starts to shoot. That is exactly what has started...

So much LEARNING in Year 2...
Today we engaged again with the wonderful book,
THE RED TREE by shaun tan.
The students changed the story from a negative one to a positive one. We thought of as many words to describe happy as possible and then we looked up the Thesaurus to help us with MORE synonyms...
After that we tried to create a picture like shaun tan. We thought about adding cut out words to go with a happy picture. We searched magazines to find words, phrases or sentences that would explain our pictures. We collaged the words on to the pictures. Here we are with our efforts. We are very proud.
We have been growing beans. Here we are looking at the progress. We drew labelled diagrams - just like real scientists.
Year 2 is also studying the life cycle of the Helicoverpa Amigera.
Today we realised that the pupae have now changed into moths. We investigated these moths and then practised creating life cycle diagrams.

Numeracy Groups
Every Tuesday Year 2 have a wonderful opportunity to work in groups to consolidate learning and revise concepts. Students are given that extra support with the help of our Enrichment teachers and parents who volunteer their time. We are so blessed.
Today we revised Time, worked on the term 'difference', used the 100s chart for subtraction and practised subtraction whilst playing a game.

The Red Tree
The second visual text that Year 2 will be studying is The Red Tree by Shaun Tan. The students were excitedly looking at each of the pages. They were discussing what they think the book is about. The pictures have so much detail.

K-2 Choir
Students in Years K-2 join together on a Monday afternoon for Combined K-2 Choir.
We are busy rehearsing for our Item for Open Day.
Mrs Lee leads the choir each week and is very enthusiastic.
She is teaching us lots of interesting words relating to the speed that we sing the songs.
